Candle Tips
Did you know that burning a candle is almost like a science? Not the rocket variety, mind you, but there’s certainly a “right” way of doing it to ensure maximum enjoyment and long life of your soy candle.
As they say, safety first, right? Always burn candles in a safe place, away from fans and drafts, flowing curtains and draperies, and out of the reach of children and pets. Do not burn candles on bookshelves, or on any other surface where clearance around the candle may be limited. Never leave a burning candle unattended.
Before lighting your candle make sure the wick is straight, and trimmed to ¼”. DABB candles have already been trimmed to the proper height for that first time burn, so you’re good to go. Each time you light your candle allow it to burn long enough so that the melt pool on the surface of the candle reaches the edges of the container. This ensures a nice even burn every time with no tunneling down the center and a bunch of unburned wax left on the sides of the container. Let your candle burn a maximum of 3-4 hours at a time, this prevents the melt pool from becoming too deep.
The best way to extinguish a candle is by dipping the wick into the melted wax. This eliminates smoke, and primes the wick for the next burn. There are special wick dippers you can use for this, or you could use a paper clip, a toothpick or a chop stick. Once the candle has solidified, use a pair of nail clippers or small scissor to trim the wick back to 1/4".
